IRIS Certification Scheme

All about gaining IRIS Certification

1. Formal Requirement

Any person wishing to gain an initial RPA 2000 Specialist Certificate of Competence to act as an Ionising Radiations Instrumentation Specialist (IRIS) must create a Portfolio of Evidence that satisfies RPA 2000’s technical criteria. The Certificate of Core Competence remains valid for a period of 5 years, before the end of which it must be renewed.

2. Relevant RPA 2000 Documents

The documents that are relevant to any person wishing to apply for or renew an RPA 2000 Certificate of Competence to act as an IRIS are listed below.

3. Applications for initial certification to act as an IRIS

The means for satisfying RPA 2000’s technical criteria are detailed in the RPA 2000 Document IRIS2 ‘Instructions for the creation of the portfolio of evidence for IRIS certification’.

Applicants for initial certification will:

  • Require Documents IRIS1 and IRIS2
  • Are advised to consult Document G2
  • May wish to refer to Documents G1, GD2 and GD3

4. Applications for renewal of certification to act as an IRIS

Persons wishing to apply to RPA 2000 to renew their IRIS certification will be able use the Renewal of Certification Scheme which will be found in RPA 2000 Document IRIS3 ‘Instructions for the Renewal of IRIS Certification (IRIS-RCS)’. This document is not yet available.

Applicants for renewal of certification will;

  • Are advised to consult Document G2
  • May wish to refer to Documents G1, GD2 and GD3
